12,3% of homeless in Barcelona are women. This figure may seem small, but an invisible and particular reality is hidden behind it. Who are they?. Do they live a different reality from homeless men? Are the resources centres concerned about the female component?

Facts and figures of homeless women:
  • 12,3% of homeless in Barcelona are women. In Spain, the figure rise to 17,3%.
  • Although there are fewer women in homelessness condition, those who reach the homeless care net are in worse mental and physical health than men.
  • More than half are between 31 and 50 years old.  21% are between 51 and 60 and  10% are between 18 and 30 years old.
  • In percentage, there are more women than men accommodated in the homeless homes or centres net.
  • The average of women living on the streets is two years.  69,3% of women are living on the streets for more than a year;  30,4%, for less than six months.
  • Means loss, abuses, mental illness, drug addictions... those are the causes for women becoming homeless.
  • Many of homeless suffer from a mental illness. Women show the most serious cases.
