Whether his name is Joan, Pere or Manel is not relevant, what matters is that we are with him and today he wants to share a part of his life with us, a life of ”shadows and lights”, of ups and downs.
My name is Ció and I have always worked as a dressmaker. I got to know Arrels seven years ago because my daughter worked there as a social educator. I then started helping Rocio building up some attrezzo for a theatre play, but I never got into much contact with the users.

LLAMADA A DESCRIPCION
La Llar Pere Barnés, inaugurated on 29th November 2007, is a facility created in order to provide solutions to the lack of mid and long term residential places for people in chronic homelessness. This is one of the oldest and most needed projects of the foundation, and it is currently operating within a network formed by other private and public organisations.
The Llar (home) offers personalised and integrated services and has 33 places. All rooms are individual, except for 3 double rooms and 1 room for four people. The latter is reserved for urgent cases referred by the Street Team. It provides 5 meals a day to the residents and also 30 additional lunchtime and dinnertime meals for non-residents referred from other programmes of the organisation.

"The LLAR PERE BARNÉS is an INNOVATIVE programme organised by Arrels Fundació that was created to relieve the problem of the lack of mid and long term residential resources for homeless people. It takes a global perspective by means of not only ptoviding accomodation but also social accompaniment and networking."
This resource is conceived as PARTICIPATIVE, MOTIVATIONAL, EMPOWERING, MEDIATING and USEFUL for our society. It has a human, integral, professionalised, multidisciplinary, educational and integrative character for our users, in this case the most vulnerable, the homeless.
Despite being the most recent programme of the organisation, it is also responding to one of the oldest and most fundamental problems. After lots of effort and work, the programme started on 29th November 2007. This space is the last piece of the mechanism aimed at providing services for the chronicly homeless. Soon the Llar will be a year old. Time and a permanent exercise of joint evaluation will lead to the adjustment of some mechanisms to meet the needs of our users more effectively.
We work so that the residents find this a dignifying and stress-free space. This should act as a first step so that the user, alongside the agents involved, manages to reach the greatest possible level of autonomy and independencec.
The Llar is maintained by the residents (33 places) the volunteerse (currently 46) and the workers (12 people). All those involved have different tasks but with a common goal: “The general goal of the Llar is to make available to homeless people the necessary tools to reach levels of self esteem and diginity in their process of regaining their personal autonomy.” The teamwork involves not only the members of the staff working permanently in the Llar, but also volunteers and other professionals involved in the processes of recovery of each of the residents. We operate as a network both at the internal level (different Arrels’ programmes) and at a external level (with other public and private organisations).
There are many challenges we are facing... and those truly important affect people directly. These are some comments from the residents: “I have finally found a home” “we live here, so we all need to cooperate” “next assemby, it will be my turn to write the minutes” The Llar Team wants to dedicate the necessary efforts to foster participation and the co-responsibility of their residents... these sentences and these thoughts are our goals.
