Acces to Housing

To provide accommodation and food of the people we attend is one of the main tasks undertaken by the organisation. Arrels has different accommodation options tailored to each step of rehabilitation. On the one hand, it coordinates the stay in hostels, which is one of the most effective resources in the first stage of personal recovery, and on the other it provides stable accommodation with 11 flats for people with varying degrees of autonomy and supervision, according to different personal circumstances.

Programme Coordinator

“We believe that, for people who have lived in the streets, living in a shared flat makes them feel, and be perceived by others, as a neighbour in an ordinary block of flats."

Testimonials

This is for me a very enriching experience”
Mariona Mir
Flats Team Volunteer

A year ago I started volunteering with the group that supports the residents living in Arrels’ flats. I wanted to see the evolution and growth of these people when they entered stable shared accommodation.

During this year, I have witnessed how their self-esteem grows; there is a change inside them. In some this change is slower than in others and always with ups and downs, due to their past histories.

LLAMADA A DESCRIPCION

To provide accommodation and food of the people we attend is one of the main tasks undertaken by the organisation. Arrels has different accommodation options tailored to each step of rehabilitation. On the one hand, it coordinates the stay in hostels, which is one of the most effective resources in the first stage of personal recovery, and on the other it provides stable accommodation with 11 flats for people with varying degrees of autonomy and supervision, according to different personal circumstances.Currently, these 11 flats host 36 people. In parallel to accommodation, we arrange places in public meal centres and subsidise meals in bar-restaurants in the surrounding area.

In 2007 Arrels funded a total of 20,611 nights in hostels and 16,737 meals for 85 people. Furthermore, in a joint effort with Centre d'Acollida Assís, Companyia de les Filles de la Caritat  and Ordre Hospitalària de Sant Joan de Déu, we have created  Fundació Mambré to provide accommodation and job opportunities.

“We believe that, for people who have lived in the streets, living in a shared flat makes them feel, and be perceived by others, as a neighbour in an ordinary block of flats."

As they say, in the flat they feel at home, they feel like ordinary people and they do not feel alone. The flat gives them security and independence, while feeling supported when they need it. Our flats thus allow Arrels to offer a dignified and stable accommodation that facilitates the support oriented to re-integration in society.”
