This programme aims to inform institutions and the general public about the phenomenon of social exclusion and to encourage the development of a public opinion which is aware of, and sympathetic with, the problem of homelessness and supportive of initiatives and measures aimed at tackling exclusion. We pursue this goal by collaborating with the media, giving talks to various audiences, and participating in research leading to reports and studies.
Ramon Noró
Programme Coordinator
To explain what Arrels does is important, but to transmit what we experience here is equally important. In fact, it is poignant. To make citizens aware that nobody is poor out of choice, and that, as Gabriel remarks, we are closer to living next to a cash machine than to owning a yacht, is one of the main tasks of the communication department.
Testimonials
“I prefer the way down, rather than the way up.”Lucía Montobbio, volunteer.
Some people say that Joaquim Costa Street in Barcelona will soon become the new Portal del Angel. I hope not. This street connects Eixample, where I live, and Raval, where Arrels is located. I have just arrived from an Erasmus stage spent in Peruggia, and I have decided that, to not overstretch the traumatic effects of ending my years in university, I must get busy and work.
“I have discovered the problem of homelessness” Pilar Carazo Library Coordinator
I knew for sure that when I had retired I would be volunteering. I believe that retirement has to be as active as possible, and I was fortunate that a friend who is a volunteer in Arrels told me she needed a person to work in the library, and this is how it all started.

Another task is the development and promotion of blogs that give a first-hand perspective of homelessness:

We need to transmit that we are vulnerable as human beings and that social policies are needed to prevent situations of poverty. Likewise, we aim to oppose those clichés and prejudices that are stereotypically linked to homelessness.
