Book ‘Fils trencats’, by Sònia Pau

16.00

Every night in Barcelona more than a thousand people sleep on the street. They see their rights to have a home, security, privacy and health violated. There’s a part of society that approaches these homeless people to try to contribute to improving their living conditions. Arrels has been doing it since 1987. The city, the streets and the street furniture have all changed but there are still those who survive in the open, enduring looks of mistrust and contempt, and violent acts. For more than 30 years, Arrels has tried to collaborate to recover the strings that were torn and help people to regain confidence and self-esteem. It all began on Sadurní Street that November 12, 1987, in a city that was preparing for the 1992 Olympic Games. Since then, hundreds of people, volunteers, professionals and donors have been the history of Arrels. Small stories full of respect and generosity with a very big goal: no one sleeping on the street.
